One of my torts. not friendly. How to get her 2 like me?

I've had these 2 torts. for a while but the one I've had a little time less. One i have had for 9 months. the other 10 months. The one who is a little newer is frightened of me. I pick him up and if i make no movement while he's in the palm of my hand then he calms down but i make the slightest movement and he gets these nervous hick-ups, and hides or tries 2 escape the other one is more tolerable of me, is there any way 2 get these tortoise to like me?

your tortoise will get used to you if you are patient, and give it time, don't make any sudden movements and be gentle when picking it up, a good way to get tortoises used to you is to spend some time just sitting with it and gently stroking the shell, (they can feel it) also try hand feeding it with its favorite food dandelions usually do the trick, but by keep hand feeding your tortoise will then see you as a bringer of its favorite things and stop being so nervous best of luck honey

Personally I don't think (from 20 years experience) that reptiles are capable of affection. You can, however, make you're new one get used to you by handling it regularly. Don't over do it though because you can stress it out which isn't good for reptiles. Try 5 minutes of handling 2 or 3 times a day and increase "dosage" with time
