Most of the analysts believe that the event is going to be a very open one with all the major cricketing nations having equal chances of clinching the trophy.
The former Lankan skipper however, while talking to Pakpassion, predicted that Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan are the hot-favourites to win the mega event, especially if their batsmen get going.
“The conditions are ideally suited for the Asian teams and expect them to excel. I expect the winner of the World T20 to come from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 or Pakistan who are all very good T20 sides and will be tough to beat particularly if they get runs on the
board,” said the former captain.
Two Asian teams, India and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 snatched the title from Asia in the competition held in
the Caribbean.
All three major sub-continent sides also made it to the semi-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, which makes them strong candidates for the T20 event. However, their progress over the past 12 months has been inconsistent which gives other nations a
slender edge going into the tournament.
The 43-year-old former player agreed that the event is going to be a well-fought one, with most of the teams evenly matched. Taking into account the nature of the Islands’ pitches, Jayasuriya thinks that chasing totals in the competition is not going to
be an easy task.
“It’s a tough tournament to predict as there are several teams who if they find their rhythm and get their tactics right could ultimately win the competition,” the great batsman added. “The pressure to chase a score of 160 plus could be too much for some
of the teams.”
