One of the eggs disappeared from a mourning dove nested on my porch what do you think happened?

The eggs were supposed to hatch in about 2 days and we checked 2 days ago and there were 2 eggs but now theres only one. Its in a spot where no squirrels can get to it so wut happened? I know that mourning doves almost always lay 2 eggs and now im worried and confused. pleez help!

maybe people took the egg cause some people like to do that.and maybe other birds ate it cause some birds like to eat other birds eggs.or it could be a snake hidden some where. hope it helps

Most likely a predator got to the nest..it could have been another bird, a snake, a rodent, etc.  They might come back for the 2nd egg as well..you will just have to wait and see.
