  1. I would say that it is the job of the Embassy or Consulate to aid American citizens in the country that they are located in, but that help is very limited. You are subject to the laws of the country that you are visiting and while the Embassy and Consulate can help you find a lawyer (you pay for the lawyer), or contact relatives back in the States for other problems.

        However, I would not say that this is part of the job description of the actual US Ambassador.  


  2. False.  It is the job of the Ambassador to represent the country to officials of the host government.  

    It is the duty of the Consul General and the consular staff to aid citizens of their country while they are in the foreign country.
