One quick question.?turkish to english?

im turkish but i live in united states so im missing some culture. when someone says erkek arkadas it beans boyfriend right? not a friend who is a boy? because i know you can also say sevgili.. the person specifically said erkek arkadas. i just want your opinion thanks! : ) i really think its just boyfriend tho.

if you translate it it should be "boy - friend" but i'm not sure if thats how they meant it.

but i'm pretty sure sevgili means boyfriend, because "sev" is like love.

Among young people, "erkek arkadas" is used in the same way as "boyfriend", i.e. it implies a romantic relationship. The older generations, however, sometimes use "erkek arkadas" to mean "male friend".

"Sevgili" is "lover". You can call your boyfriend "sevgilim" when you are addressing him directly, but you normally wouldn't use this word to refer to him when you are talking to someone else (that would be like referring to your boyfriend as "my lover" in English - sounds funny).
