  2. Potatos were grown for home use, and wheat was grown by the British overlords for export to Britain...the potatoe famine caused the deaths of many, while crops were exported.

                                 During the time of English rule Irish Roman Catholics were not allowed to own land.

                                   English gentry owned the land, they owned the potatoes, during the time of the famine the English sent for troops and gun boats and shipped any potatoes out to England, (good prices in England at that time), millions of Irish Catholics men women and little children died a few managed to get away to America or where ever they could get to.  

                                  Before I have a complete fit, the answer to your question is no.

  4. The vast majority wanted Home Rule to be able to live on their own land, grow their own crops and reap the benefits. Home Rule had become something necessary to the Irish, after Cromwell 's massacres and the plantation's being built all over the land were restricting tenants to stores of food and money. They were impoverished.
