Question:

One rule to change or add to the NHL?

I would like to see a change in the "puck needs to cross the line completely to count" rule. I think if they made it like football, where the puck need just to break the plane, it counts. This way, there would be less "inconclusive " calls about if a puck crossed all the way. All you would need to see is part of it break the plane. What'dya think?

  1. get rid of the pentaly if you flip the puck out of the defensive zone and it wasnt tipped...just make it a face off in your zone with no line change like an icing.

  2. I don't think that would do much. There would be just as much inconclusiveness because there will always be pads or skates that are obscuring the camera angles. I personally believe the kicking the puck into the net is a bigger issue. I think it should count if you kick a puck in. I do not believe that it is as dangerous as some people make it out to be.

  3. no touch icing

  4. I don't mind the puck crossing the whole way or touch-up icing (since when it's done right no one gets hurt).  I think they need to readdress the Instigator rule.

  5. I'd like to see goals count no matter how they go in.  Who cares if a guy kicked it in?

Also, the NHL has experimented with a 2nd line that would make these so-called no goals easier to distinguish.

  6. I'd like to see them change these wimpy hooking calls. It's disgraceful what they're calling "hooking" these days.

I don't think you can do the "breaks the plane" thing w/ hockey. It's a different game, leave that part of it alone.

  7. I think your blue line idea is really good. What do you think of an electronic sensor, like they have in tennis? I think I like the  human eye factor, but I like the speed and flow too. Hmmmmm.

As for my rule wish: I'd like to reinstate the goaltender crease interference rules expanded.  I just don't like the human shield / human screen parties in the crease. A goal or a save seems lucky and not skill. I like the set ups and the one-on-one dogfights much more.

I'd also love more penalty shots and shootouts. I'm not sure where why or how, but I'd like it anyway.

  8. One rule I would like to see put into the NHL is a rule like in the NFL in which if U don't agree with a call by the reff u can question it. they should have it so that if the Reff makes a call u don't agree with u can question it if the Reff is wrong the call is reversed if he is right the team is given a two minute penalty

  9. The whole trapezoid/goalie puck handling rule is silly.

No touch icing is for kids any Jr. or Pro (adult) team needs touch icing do to the speed of the game.

  10. I think you makje a good point, but then it would become, at least I think, how far into the line does the puck have to go? I mean, if it doesnt cross it, but it barely touches the edge closer to the crease, no way is that a goal, but there will be a lot fo room for argument over it.

Honestly, I'd prefer if someone could give me a really good explanation as to why off sides is an issue. There may be a very good reason, I may be converted, its just one of the things I dont think I ever totally got. That, and I don't think its fair that a goalie can't head to the box. Thats retarded, I dont care if ti means a high scoring game and easy shots...dont be a tool, dont go in the box, its pretty easy.

  11. That wouldn't change a thing. I think, especially being a Red Wings fan, the rule change should be the criteria to review a goal... (or a no goal). Time after time the Wings were screwed on that even though Holmstrom was outside of the crease... But they can't review to say he wasn't in the crease. The goal review criteria should be changed

  12. No touch icing, or Gary Bettman not allowed in any NHL arena

  13. i think they should use a sensor

  14. Everything in hockey is "completely" in/out/over etc.  But I don't think that there are enough wrong calls to warrent worrying about whether it fully crossed the line or not.  But if there are, why not have some kind of system like in pro tennis, an animation to show where the puck is in the crease/net etc.  If they can use it in a sport like tennis to determine if a ball was in/out, why not hockey?

  15. I think the most important rule change I would like to see is the one that will make Brian Engblom's hair illegal.
