One speaker/earphone doesn't work on my pc

Question

I have a custom built PC, but only one speaker or earphone works when you plug them in. I've tried different speakers/headphones but it still only comes through one side. I've check all of the sound/balance settings and they are all set so the sound should be equal. Can you help?
