  1. two gerbils :]

  2. Im going to go for a gerbil next as i dont find the tails that bad as they have fur on them. Fro what i understand as i have had neither ive only had dwarf hamsters.

A syrain is very cuddly but very solitary meaning no other hamster with it.

A gerbil Isnt solitary but if they are not from the same litter they have to be slowy introduced by the split cage meathod. Also They both require alot of room to move in. aswell Gerbils like to JUMP with there legs so you need a good cage. And they dont like to be handled alot.

  3. well i have had both one syrian and two gerbils. syrains are cute and cuddly, and extremely loving. once tamed, even if neglected

syrians will remain tame. but gerbils, if tame, are as friendly as it gets, and very easy to care for, they drink less water, because of there dry habitat. they are very entertaining to watch run, play and dig. if you buy a cheap storage container or some kind of tub, fill it with bedding add tubes, or toy and gerbils, you can have hours of fun watching them dig, explore, run through tubes that come out under the bedding, and burrowing you gerbils

    gerbils are just more playful

plus sryians seem like they get scared of other animals and scent more then they should. sryians can be emotional (i know weird) and that can be frusterating seeing you hamster scared or worried.

  4. I was in your situation before I got my gerbils. I was debating between two gerbils or one syrian hamster. The main reason I chose gerbils over a hamster is because gerbils aren't nocturnal. I wanted a pet I could play with during the day, and not a pet that comes out while I'm sleeping.

Other answerers have said great things about both gerbils and hamsters. It's really up to you to decide which is the best pet for you. If you have any questions about gerbils, feel free to e-mail me. I'd be glad to help answer them. Good luck!

EDIT: Gerbils, generally, don't mind being handled. However, they'd MUCH rather run around and explore than be held and cuddled. This is something you should keep in mind. They do tend to smell less because they're desert animals and produce less urine. This doesn't mean a hamster smells more, though. It just means you may have to clean the cage more frequently. Gerbils love chewing and digging, so tanks with a mesh lid tend to be the best housing for them.

  5. I'd have to go syrian hamster.  The tails creep me out.  As far as hamsters go, though, I like the dwarfs who can live in same-s*x pairs like gerbils (only without the icky tails and MUCH cuter!).
