Question:

One underweight daughter, one overweight daughter - Food issues?

I have one daughter who is too skinny. She is underweight and so I try and encourage her to eat (healthy stuff) otherwise she would go all day only on a handful of cereal and a piece of fruit. My oldest daughter is slightly overweight, and she will eat all day long if I let her. When she sees her sister eating, she always wants something too. How do I handle the food issue when the older daughter complains that her sister gets to eat and she doesn't?

  1. my sister is ultra skinny for her age at a hundred and 10 lbs, but we found it might be her metabolism. I on the other hand am short and weigh 107. I kept my weight low after a serious eating thing. I couldnt stop eating and it got to the point where i could out eat my stepdad. The reason is because i had a bad secret that made me never want to actually look nice. I used to wear baggy clothes and sulk. So maybe the one with the problem eating too much just cant say whats on her mind. The one that doesnt eat and is skinny you should kind of monitor, my sister used to purposely throw up her food after dinner. So watch that one closely, and make sure to treat them both evenly, and realize that even healthy foods should be eaten in moderation....

  2. Get a snack chart! Tell them that they are allowed to have a certain number of snacks (healthy and junk alike) every day. Every time they eat a snack, put a sticker on the chart. When they have reached their daily allowance, that is it. Also, the older one may be jealous and thinking that you are giving your younger daughter more attention. Try spending more time with her one on one and see if the food situation gets better. My girls used to do the same thing, but the older one got way better after I used to just spend 30 minutes a day one on one with her. Weird, I know. Also, find out what the underweight daughter likes to eat and let her eat it whenever she wants. Introduce new food to her and tell her that you have a 2 bite rule: if she does not like it after taking 2 bites (chewing and swallowing) then she does not have to eat it, she can have something else. She may just be a picky eater. Good luck! I hope I helped!

  3. hmm....tell your overweight daughter that she is not eating like her sister because her sister is a skinny toothpick and she's at an age where she needs to start taking  care of her body so she can at least find a bf.

          hope this helps!

  4. well being the older daughter shouldn't mean she acts like she's 2. tell her so. tell her straight off that she eats too much and that the other one barely eats at all. She'll get it one day. just smack her around a bit. you're the mom!

  5. well you said that the underweight is encouraged "healthy stuff" so why wouldn't it be ok for the overweight daughter to also have the "healthy stuff"   She can eat all the fruits and vegetables she likes, just not the chips and pop
