  1. Assuming you are a legal citizen of the country in which you reside and can call them, there are these plate checker dude types called police who typically are the only ones entrusted with plate checking. Call the non-emergency number of your local police.

  2. You wont be able to access this information, as car registration details are confidential and are protected under the Data Protection Act.

You need to notify the police. They will not give you the information either, but they will record the incident and trace the driver. You will then need to contact your insurer, tell them what has happened so they can make a record of it, and wait to hear from them.

Your insurer can also access the driver's details, provided his car is registered correctly, and they will approach him for a statement. It is a lengthy process as they have to allow him time to respond, but at least you will know it is being dealt with.

Usually, if the other driver responds and admits he was driving, your insurer and his insurer will agree liability and they will sort out the claim between them, but you do occasionally get people who don't respond and that is quite a long process as legal proceedings have to start and they have to prove that he was the driver that left the scene. That is the worst case scenario though, and usually, when you have told the police and your insurer, it is just left to them to resolve.

  3. Just give it to police when you fill out accident report.

  4. You cannot (legally) find out by yourself.  The police and authorities are the only ones authorized to do this.  Why not report this to the police ?

  5. You can't. Would you want just anybody to be able to find out your information, using only your license plate #? Hit and run is a felony. Why haven't you contacted the police?

  6. Did you call the police & report the accident? If so they will take care of everything, you do not want to confront this person as you do not know anything about him or what drugs, booze etc. he might be using or if he is dangerous.

  7. You don't....you file a police report and then you submit it to your insurance company.

You'll be unable to get any information due to the HIPPA laws (privacy act), unless you know someone on the 'inside'.

  8. fgh

  9. You need to call the police department where the accident happened and report it immediately. If you already have called the police department when the accident occured and gave them the plate number they should be able to provide the insurance information to you. It may also be a good idea to call your insurance company and ask your agent or the company what is the best way for you to proceed with getting your vehicle fixed. They will probably be glad to assist you.

  10. Call the police and file a report . Give the info you have about the car and plate #. They will track down the owner and give you the info you need , as far as owners name ,insurance info and so forth. You should get a police report to file the claim with so you can get your car repaired. Most of that info is not available on the net for everyone to see because of the privacy act. The only ones who can get it are the police......UJN

  11. just go to the police and report the accident. when you give them the license plate number, they will be a able to look it up. When they get it, your insurance company will get a hold of that number as well...you may not have to do anything after that
