I am starting in Dublin for 2 nights in July and will probably stay for a further 5 days in Ireland.

I would prefer not to travel by car.

Please recommend any picturesque places to visit that are within easy reach without a car.

Thanks!

  1. we have been to Ireland without acar. Staying in dublin we took coach trips and/or train to Newgrange megalithic burial mound, the Giant's causeway in Northen Ireland,as well as several castles and stately homes. We also took regular service buses to Trim castle and the Rock of Cashel.

  2. hi you

if you look up the Irish tourist broad web site discoverireland .ie you will get more then you need

  3. you have to go to Dingle Co.Kerry it's such a pretty place with plenty to do...there is a bus service available to dingle from dublin it is not a direct service!

  4. I could list tonnes of tourist areas in Ireland that you could be interested in but if you want picturesque, go to West Cork. They have some of the best beaches in Ireland, open countryside, and is extremely beautiful. The weather is pretty good at the moment. You can get a train from Dublin to Cork city, but you would probably need to take a bus to a town in West Cork, I recommend Clonakilty. Its only an hours bus drive away. Its well worth looking up on the internet. You should also see the west of Ireland, Galway maybe. I'm not too sure how to go about getting there though.

  5. You can take the train directly to Galway which is well worth the visit and you would probably get a local tour to the Cliffs of Moher from there.(Spectacular cliffs)

  6. As much as I love Dingle and Galway I wouldn't recommend that you visit them without a car, if you're only in Ireland for 7 days!

They're both a fair distance from Dublin and I've done both by car!  Let me tell you it is very exhausting!!!  I went from Dublin - Cork - Killarney - Galway - Dublin in 6 days.  Not a good idea and won't be repeating that itinerary anytime soon!

Belfast is nearer (but still a fair trek if you want a big city) but Dublin is packed full of history (why would you want to leave); Trinity College, St Stephen's Green, Dublin Castle, Glasnevin Cemetery, Kilmainham Gael, Dublin Zoo, GPO....absolutely loads!!!  and then there's the shopping!!

The night life is brill too - need to go to Temple Bar but there is a place I think on O'Connell Street that does an Irish Dancing night (well worth seeing!).

Other that Dublin and Belfast, Kildare is very beautiful and not too far away; has a stud farm and the mountains are wonderful.

I speak from experience and love Ireland to bits (I've family there).  My favourite place though is Kerry and in particular Killarney, (there March 07) and I never wanted to leave; what a beautiful county!!

  7. Your in the Emerald Isle, get to Kilkenny(please dont) or Wicklow buy bus & there are places where you can hire a Gypsy type caravan & horse for a couple of days, they'll give you a route & map & Just clip clop thru the most wonderful countryside you'll ever see, talk to people,Have a pint & a pie or colgannon with sausage, you can leave the horse & van certain places,or hire it for longer I hav,nt been for 5yrs but a mate went last year from Kilkenny(please dont)to Cork 12days~&we cant shut him up going on about it,so try it out.Kenny(now do you get it)

  8. If you stay in Dublin, theres loads of public transport so you wouldnt really need a car and theres loads to see there. If you are staying the extra 5 days, then you could probably get the train up to Belfast or Cork or anywhere and then stay there. Belfast would be easy because theres loads of stuff there to see and then you can get the train back down to Dublin if you need to go to the airport and its not that long by train.

    :)

  9. I have to agree with sxctara88 Dingle is such a beautiful place, I wish I could live there!
