So I'll be having a huge, crazy, stressful week in which my entire degree rests upon.

What would you do:

1. In preparation

2. During the week

I'm trying different natural/alternative health methods to improve and maintain my health so I have maximum effectiveness during this week.

Any herbs, foods, supplements, etc., etc., that might help me better survive?

Any other non-health tips would be helpful, too.

  1. Try to eat (and drink) lots of brain food, which will keep you concentrated and able to think clearly in your exam e.g:

    - oily fish e.g. salmon or fresh tuna

    - tomatoes

    - broccoli

    - water

    - lots of fruit containing vitamin-C eg. oranges

    - vitamin-E-rich foods (good for memory) such as nuts, eggs, leafy green vegetables and brown rice.

Health-wise, try and get out in the open air as much as possible (in between your studies), which'll extend your concentration span and help keep you relaxed... especially if you're a born-worrier about exams (like me!)! Also, try and get multi-vitamin supplements, which are really good for the health of your brain and will keep you as awake and alert as possible. On that subject, try to get around 9-10 hours sleep, especially in the week-or-so before and during your exams. As soon as you start to get tired, there's simply no point in carrying on with your studies because you won't retain the information... so go to bed! Just an extra note, if you're really stuck on something at night - don't stay up for hours trying to work it out - go to bed and try again in the morning. You tend to subconsciously puzzle things out in your sleep, so it's likely that all will be clearer the next day!

On another note, try not to worry too much about:

    1) Your health - if you put on a few pounds by eating comfort food during your studies, don't fret about it... You can worry about that later, when studies aren't as important.

    2) Your exams - exams are really stressful, I know from experience, but just keep reminding yourself that you'll be fine. I'm not saying don't be nervous, because that's natural, but don't work yourself up so much that when you get into the exam, you can't concentrate because then you will mess it all up. And, when you come out of an exam, don't worry about how you've just done - that's in the past - concentrate on the ones coming up.

Also, try and plan a day out with your friends after your exams so you have something to look forward too.

Good luck! I'll be doing my science exams around the same time as yours, so I know the feeling!

  2. Ugh.. I have final exams next week.. Here are some good ideas:

    In preparation:

    1. Find a quiet, well lighted place to study where nobody will bother you.

    2. Play some soft background music that will calm you

    3. Have no other distractions (keep your cell phone and TV away from you)

    4. Eat four well-balanced meals a day and drink plenty of water.

    5. Buy an exercise ball and video

    6. Do pilates or yoga.

    7. Meditate just by clearing your mind

    8. Take a 15 minute break every 30 minutes when you're studying to unwind and relax

    9. Have plenty of Advil

    10. Never drink energy drinks, they can cause you to crash

    11. Make sure you get plenty of sleep. Buy yourself some earplugs and a sleeping mask and sleep for at least 8 hours a night.

    12. If you have any friends who are in the same class, make a study group and study together. Its way better than studying alone!

    During the week:

    1. Read over your notes right before the exams or whatever you have to do. That way, you will remember the most.

    2. Don't over-study

  3. relax and get plenty of rest

have some fun too, its good for you

and if you feel good you can study  better

eat healthy, take a good multi vitamin and omega 3 -good for memory and concentration

exercise too, maybe go for a walk

    all the best

  4. you'll definately want to be drinking a lot of water to keep yourself hydrated and focused. and make sure you get sleep... even if you're studying you can go to bed wwhen you start to get tired and finish in the morning because you'd just be wasting your time trying to study when you can barely stay awake. yoga is a good technique to keep you focused, calm, and relaxed... it's easy to learn and there are tv programs and how-tos in books and online.

    hope this helps... good luck
