One year old Lactose Intolerant??

My daughter has been throwing up since yesterday morning. She had some milk and then threw up. She was fine all day yesterday until last night when we were trying to get her to go to sleep and she had some milk and she threw up that and her dinner. Then this morning, we gave her some milk and she

threw that up too.

It's only happening when she drinks milk, but she has been drinking milk for the last month or so with no problems. She eats cheese and yogurt. But during the day when she drinks juice, she is fine.

I don't think it is the specific milk because it has been from 2

different gallons.

When you are lactose intolerant, are you that way from the beginning or do you just all the sudden become like that?

  1. This sounds EXACTLY like my son when he was that age! I figured it couldnt be dairy because he had always been fine with cheese and breastmilk (and I ate dairy). It had more to do with the fats in the milk then the actual milk. We cut diary out of his diet and he did great. We slowly introduced it back in at about 18 months. He did better but not great. He seemed to tolerate most dairy but not vit. D milk. We switched him to 2% and that was better. We still limited it though. Now hes 21 months and can handle any dairy (vit D included) just fine. Definately bring it up with your Peds doc next time you are in. They will have advice for you too!

  2. Infants sometimes experience temporary lactose intolerance, but true lactose intolerance is very rare in babies.  True lactose intolerance is actually a naturally occuring event that sets in with half of the population at about four years old. It's considered a normal state of your body.

I don't think she's intolerant at this point.  It could be a bug she has and the milk just isn't sitting well with her.

  3. I have 2 toddlers that do not tolerate milk, if they keep it down they get a red rash on the face and loose, smelly stools.  We give them lactaid milk.  The boys can tolerate small amounts of milk without issues.  They can eat grilled cheese, mac and cheese, and yogurt without a problem
