OneMain Financial 200 to take place at Dover International Speedway – NASCAR news
After a well-deserved break, the Nationwide Series returns in full flow with the OneMain Financial 200 at the Dover International Speedway with just six races remaining in the season.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will be looking to consolidate his lead at the top with a strong performance at Dover. Stenhouse lead Elliott Sadler by 16 points before the race at Chicagoland but a disappointing 8th complemented by Sadler
finishing 6th has cut his lead down to 14 points.
Reed Sorenson is currently 47 points behind Stenhouse and looks very unlikely to make a title challenge with just 6 races to go.
Stenhouse finished 4th earlier this season in the 5-hour Energy 200 and will be looking to improve on that to inch closer to a first Nationwide Series Championship.
“I think if you look at it over the whole season, no matter where you are in points, you just got to go out there and get all the points you can,” Stenhouse said. “The way our series has been this year, whoever is leading always tends to have a bad race,
and it brings everybody right back into it.”
Sadler finished 6th at Dover earlier this year and will be hoping the results are reversed as he seeks to overtake Stenhouse at the top. Sadler has seven consecutive top10 finishes coming into this race but has failed to win a race
this season.
Sprint Cup racers Clint Bowyer, Carl Edwards, Kasey Kahne, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano and Jamie McMurray will also be running in the race to warm up for Sunday’s AAA 400.
Brad Keselowski will be looking to follow up his triumph at Chicagoland and build momentum as he looks to focus on the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
Logano will be hoping for better luck this time around in Dover as he wrecked his car along with Clint Bowyer in a massive crash in the 5-hour Energy 200 earlier this year. He was runner up in this event in 2010 though and will be looking to go one better
this time around.
Defending champion Kyle Busch will not be defending it as he focuses on the Sprint Cup Championship.
Clint Bowyer will be looking to get over last weekend’s Sprint Cup disappointment as he comes to a track where he has won twice in the Nationwide Series and was looking forward to an exciting race.
“I love Dover; it's like Bristol, just a bigger, faster and meaner Bristol,” he said. “I have two Nationwide Series wins at Dover, and I'd love to make it three.”
Dover is one of only two concrete tracks on the NASCAR schedule, with Bristol being the other. The race practice will be held on Friday with qualifying and the race to be held on Saturday.
