  1. wow you be ignorant! i have been a classroom teacher  for 12 years and all the things you just described are products of stupidity not students being in special education. it is just as sad for families to fear the services and short change the students by not getting them help as it is for narrow minded people to write them off. there are plenty of children in Spec  Ed that are exited when the child is able to better function in a general ed program. I'm sorry i just re-read your entry and you are incredulously mislead. in most states special education teachers have to obtain a regular teaching credential AND a special ed. credential. these teachers are well qualified in many cases. not to mention people who are not any good at their jobs are in every field not just teaching. if your teacher is pushing you to get a GED that is the situation  you are in not a systemic issue of special education

  2. Listen sunshine do your homework before you type c**p online...You think you know so much that you could just walce into any site and type jibberish? Most successful people ARE special ed people. There is a reason why they are special ed, either they are ADD, ADHD or some sort of a learning disability but that doesnt mean they cant work you r****d! If anything they can do more than you can if only they focus on it.

  3. Just because you learn a little differently than others is no reason to believe that you are not capable or intelligent.  I am currently at an ordinary community college, taking classes with all kinds of people that have various "learning (dis)abilities" or other differences.  These people are setting out to become teachers, nurses, actors, and all sorts of other things.  You can make something of yourself.  Just believe in yourself and your abilities and anything is possible.  If you want to do something more with your life than live with your mom after high school, watching TV all day, then you can do it.

Think of one thing you want to do more than anything else...now go for it!

Shoot for the moon.  Even if you miss, you'll still land among the stars!!!!!!

  4. i'm sorry you feel awful about your special ed school

if you try your best and get good grades will that not make you able to move up. there are many types of trade schools that you can possibly get into.

what is ld? is that a learning disorder? you can clearly write well enough so it cannot be something really bad.

do not let the school diagnose why you are in s. ed.

have your parents find out which ways can help your situation.

google to find answers yourself. A lot of disabled people have high skills in other areas. do not accept that you will not have  a future - accepting that will guarantee that you will not.

there are support groups for all disoders - find one near you for your ld.

even if it is a struggle, keep doing things that challenge you.

  5. Then is Then now is NOW

  6. You need to have your parents step up and see what the problem is.  You also don't say what your disability is I have a niece who just graduated from a school for children with Special needs and she goes to Temple University in PA the same school that Bill Cosby went to.  My daughter will be going to college because I make sure of the classes that she getting and make sure that she has the credits that she needs to graduate with a high school diploma from the state of NY.  Your parents have to be active in your education to make sure that they don't stick you in a dead end classes.  My brother who's a psychologist has special ed needs, so does my brother who's a journalist and my younger brother works for the federal government. My older daughter who is dyslexic has graduated both high school and college and she makes 30,000 a year  and she's going back to get her masters to be a teacher.  You can make it even if you have special needs you just have to push your parents to help you like I marked and make sure that my children what they need to make it past high school.

  7. I understand where you are coming from. I am a parent of a special ed child who feels the same way, by the way in the state of SC special education student usually only receive a certificate of completion, not a diploma. Why because they are not expected to take or pass the required exit exam or given the classes that will assist them in taking the exam nor will special accommodations be made for them to try. My child will take the GED exam, go to community college and then on to college with assistance. I don't have a problem with it because I was also one of those children back in the 70's. I score 3rd highest out of 324 people taking the GED, went on to earn two college degrees.

Life is only over when you give up. Don't give up. Ask parents to set up IEP meeting to get you main stream into some regular classes. Be part of the meeting, drop the hopelessness, stand up for yourself and learn all you can. I wish you luck.

PS. Start studying for the GED or exit exam. Neither is no joke!

  8. I'm sorry you've had so much trouble.  But not all special ed systems are that way.  I worked at a K-8 school for several years and watched as many young people did quite well in special ed and went on to get some really great jobs. One young man is a camera man at a local TV studio.  So, he has problems reading and doing math, he's a great camera man.

  9. attitude may  have something to do with that don't you think

  10. It's mandatory for all schools to provide an education for all   children. Even children with learning disabilities.  They're the ones who preach "no child left behind."

First of all if there is a learning problem the school should be doing an IEP.  This is to determine how a child is to be taught in certain areas.  Set up a class schedule and any other help the child needs.  Child may need to be in front of the class to aliminate distractions, may have to have a cooling down time, like sitting out in the all to get away from the stress for awhile.  All these things have to be taken into consideration and more planning needs to be done with the special ed teachers.

All these children want is to partipate and be like all the other children.

What ever is happening at your school is wrong.  Get a GED.

What's that all about.  How are you going to get a GED when you have special needs.  That's bull hockey.  It's called passing the buck on to someone else and then to someone else.  When does it end.

If you're getting no help from the school, then maybe it's time to take matters into your own hands.  Sounds like you have been thrown nothing but negative c**p at you.  I don't know how young you are, but you sound smart enough to know whats going on.  By the way you're in school because the law says that's where you're supposed to be.

Don't know if you know about Social Services, but I have a huntch that you do.  Maybe it's time to give them a call and tell them your story.  Social Services are also involved with IEP.  They are present at any meets at the school regarding the IEP.  If things aren't coming together, they should be getting on the schools case about it.

Don't know your home situation so I'll go with this, have your mom call Social Services regarding education, like I said before tell them your story with your mom present.

Social Services should no only be working with the school, but should also beinig working with you personaly.

I'm aware of Social Services, Special Education and the whole nine yards.  Both of my grandchildren are in special education and other services provided bySocial Services.  I've attended IEP meetings, which anyone can attend by the way, even my grandchild, which she did.

You have more going for you then you think.  Sometimes we have to fight for our rights that are needed to get an education no matter what the circustances are.

You also have a principal and school counselor that you can go to.  Don't hesitate to do so.

Don't know if I'm telling you what you need to know.  But from what I'm hearing from you is you want an education and don't  like the way you're being treating.  It's now your time to be heard.  There is a life out there for you.

Good luck in getting a good education............

  11. I understand your frustration but special education is not the worst thing in the world. I too was in the special education system and I struggled for many years. But I worked at it with my parents and I was brought to Sylvan Learning Center and I wanted to do better so I worked at it myself. I read 16 books that were 250 pages or more in one year. I was at a 6th grade reading and comprehension level in 9th grade but I wroked at it and in one year I got to the 12th grade reading and comprehension level in 10th grade. There are teachers out there who care and want to to suceed you just have to go out there and find them. I am in 12th grade now and I am on my way to college. Show people you want this and that you're going to to in what ever it takes. Prove yourself to them.I had teachers that stood in my classes and said that we wouldn't even graduate and I sure proved them wrong. Don't ever let anyone say no to you. You have to fight for yourself. It really is a sink or swim world out there and you have to show them you can swim! I know you can just by hearing your frustration, just turn that frustration into the fight you need to get the education you want. Stay after school do what ever it takes!
