Ong Soon Hock and Mak Hee Chun determined to perform well at international stage – Badminton news
Malaysia’s Men’s Doubles shuttler, Ong Soon Hock has joined forces with Mak Hee Chun to perform well in all major tournaments at international stage. He has been playing with Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari for the last five years, but the later has left the
Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).
The 26-year-old Ong Soon was thinking of leaving the game when his partner, Fairuzizuan decided to leave BAM and become an independent shuttler. However, he participated in last month’s Vietnam Open with the partnership of Mak Hee Chun and reached at the
semi-final stage of the championship.
In the Vietnam Open, the Malaysian pair delivered a superb performance against top seeded pair, Noriyasu Hiarata and Hirokatsu Hashimoto of Japan. This wonderful performance against the higher ranked shuttlers changed his mind and he again became determined
to win glory with his new partner.
Ong Soon’s next target is to perform well at SEA Games, and also to win the title in the Men’s Doubles category. The badminton event in the SEA Games will take place next month in Indonesia.
The shuttler said that he was disappointed with the way things were going on in BAM and the resignation of Fairuzizuan added fuel to the fire.
He said, “I thought of leaving BAM as I felt like I was at the tailend of my career. There was no motivation and nothing to look forward too – especially when I found out about Fairuzizuan’s plan to leave.”
He further added, “But all the negative feeling and uncertainty changed after Mak and I beat the Japanese pair at the Vietnam Open. That was the same pair Fairuzizuan and I lost to in the Malaysian Open in January. This breakthrough boosted my self-confidence.
I felt young, good and more motivated to prove myself again”
Now, the newly formed pair of Ong Soon and Mak Hee is set to bring glory to the country in upcoming events, as both shuttlers have the skills and determination to fight against all top players in the arena of badminton.
