Onions' injury rules him out of Ashes
England’s chances in the forthcoming Ashes were dealt a body-blow when it was revealed that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 but he was expected to make a comeback for the Ashes.

However, it was reported that Onions will need to undergo surgery to overcome his back injury and that will keep him out of international cricket for nine more months.

Onions has had issues with his back, and the stress fracture immediately after the tour of South Africa had meant that he missed the four Tests against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755. Onions tried to recuperate by methods without opting for the surgery, but that attempt has failed and the pace bowler will need to undergo surgery on Monday.

Onions has played eight Test matches and four ODIs in his career so far. He has 28 Test match wickets and four ODI wickets at an average of 31 and 46 respectively.

The English cricket board’s chief medical officer, Dr Nick Peirce explained that they had tried all methods of treatment which would have not needed surgery. However, nothing has worked with Onions and “as a result we have no option left but to undertake a course of treatment involving surgery.”

He also added, “The surgery Graham faces is a relatively significant operation and his rehabilitation will see him ruled out of all cricket for approximately up to nine months. His rehabilitation will be overseen and carried out by the ECB medical team in conjunction with the medical staff at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782.”

It was not as if Onions would have made it to the Ashes squad even if he had come out fit. For one, even if he would have announced himself fit, he hasn’t had any international cricket, and with only a one-day series against Pakistan remaining, it would have meant that the selectors would have been taking a big risk by selecting him.

England goes into the Ashes, having won the previous edition at home in 2009. However, the difficulty of the task ahead can be gauged from the fact that the English side has never won a series in Australia since 1987.

This is reflected in the bookmakers’ odds as well, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s 2-1 win over England is pegged at 7.5 by Blue Square.
