Question:

Onkyo HT-SR 800S?

I'm thinking of getting the Onkyo HT-SR 800S HTiB. Any comparable systems (price range and quality) that I should also look at?

also, what's the deal with the pass-thru HDMI? I'm kinda confused over the limitations of it

I plan on hooking it up to the BenQ w500 projector, an xbox 360 (pro) and a dvd player

thanks!

  1. Onkyo is one of those companies who overcome their lack of name recognition by making a better product.  In that entry level price range ($500), you'll get a much better receiver from Onkyo than somebody like Sony, Yamaha etc.  Those companies don't have to try anymore and they know it.

As far as pass-thru, I would not attempt to pass more than 1080i on a machine at this level.  If you are running 1080p (the BenQ w500 is capable) you may want to bypass this reciever when making your connections.  Best way is to settle for 1080i.  Your xbox can go 1080p, but there's no reason to, and you DVD player can't do it unless it's HD-DVD or Blu-Ray anyway.
