Question:

Onkyo HT-SR800 7.1 setup?

I have this surround sound system and I am clueless as to what to have everything set to. Everyone keeps telling me to set it at what sounds good to me. That's hard todo when there are a million different settings and without having action scenes all the time and stuff like that it is hard to set it up. I had it where I wanted it kind of but my brother thought he would be funny and mess it all up. Now I am clueless as to how to get it back to where I had it. If anyone could help me out here that would be great. At least give me a bassis here and I can go from there. Thanks..

  1. With the HT-SR 800 you don't really have to worry about manual setup.  Big thing here, read your instruction manual, it will provide you with a lot more in depth coverage on specific components.

If you're unsure as to what your brother messed up you can do a  factory restore to set your receiver back to the factory defaults.  My onkyo requires me to push and hold the receiver and display button for a period of time.  Something like that.  It will be in your manual, if you don't have that you can view it here:

I just got done reading a bit of yours.  It's easy as pie.  With as much time as it took you to write and post this question you will be able to figure out what need to do to set up your system.

    1.  Hook up your components.

    2. Select digital input type for your sources.

    3. Use Audyssey 2EQ auto calibration mic to tune in your system.

    4. Enjoy!

One other thing, on the front of your player, there is a Speaker set A/B.  Ensure that speaker set A is on and B is off.
