  1. Without figuring price into the equation, you might be surprised to know that the Pioneer Elite brand has the same "guts" as the standard Pioneer audio line.  You're paying for a pretty front display and gold-plated connectors on the back with the Elite.

All of that aside, the Onkyo has better connectivity and a much better AMPLIFIER section than the Pioneer.  Also, the Onkyo has built-in HD radio reception.  Free CD-quality music from your local radio stations with just an antenna.

Truthfully, the only thing the Pioneer has over the Onkyo (besides $200) is the "Faruja DCDi" video scaler.  The video upconversion hardware/software (Faruja) in the Elite will far out-perform the Onkyo's (Silicon Image) video upconversion chipset.

But aside from that, the Onkyo will deliver much better sound quality than the Elite.  The difference is amazing.  Also, the higher number of input/output jacks and ease of setup, will make the Onkyo a better choice for years to come.

  2. Wow!  (2) Big Daddy's duking it out, man I would kill to have either one to be honest with you but on the real, I own a Pioneer THX Select 2 @ 120@7 {VSX-1015TXK}, and I tell you it is a monster and before that I owned an Onkyo 6.1 I tell you neither one never over heated and the more I cranked them both the smoother the sound was.   But as much as I like the Pioneer Elite 94TXH model_____man!!!   I will have to go with the Onkyo TX-NR905, because we all know that King Kong defeated Godzilla, go with the Onkyo, they both are good choices but the Onkyo?  There's just something about it! On top of that I was a previous owner at one time and I really enjoy the quality of the product.

  3. I own Onkyo pr-sc885 pre-amp/processor - which is next step up form 905 (without amps).  I have a very hi-end audio system, and Onkyo is pretty much up there.

I was never impressed with pioneer sound - their plasmas are the best though...

    Go with Onkyo.
