Onkyo ht-r550 Speaker system gets cut off at high volume fixable?

one my speaker system gets over a sertain volum it shuts off on me seams to be a saftey mechanism is there a way to disable it or to raise it just a bit im having a party and i need it a bit louder and it used to go louder but now iv been having this problem for like a month its an onkyo ht-r550 speaker system 7.1 anyone know what is wrong or how to fix it

  1. Usually this is 1 of 3 things. If the speakers do not sound distorted before it shuts off then you may have a speaker wire that is shorted (the possitive and negative wire touching)

    Check on the back of each speaker and on the back of the reciever to make sure the wires are clean and do not touch. If you found some then the crossed wire was sending the reciever into protection mode. If it isn't the wires it could be internal inside one of the speakers. If that is the problem then all you have to do is find out which speaker by playing it loud without one of the speakers. Then take turns disconnecting each speaker until you find the speaker that the system will play without.

    If it isn't those then the system just isn't powerfull enough to do what you want. If this is the case the speakers will sound distorted before you get to the level it shuts off usually.
