Online Schooling for a 5th grader?

Hi I am in 5th grade and I hate school. During recess, I sit inside a bathroom stall because I have no friends. As I said, I don't have any friends and I always feel lonley. You may say "There are so many people in your school, make new friends." Well, at my school that isn't an option, because there are only 30 students in THE WHOLE GRADE. I hate school so much, and every day I do what ever I can not to go to school. I also fake sick, this month I have been absent from school 6 times.

I really want to be homeschooled, but my mom says no. I'd rather be dead than go to school. My mom says she doesn't have time, even though she does (only my dad works.) ANd besides, I heard about this girl and her parents worked from 6 in the morning till 6 at nite, and she was homeschooled becuase she used online schooling.

I really want to do online schooling. I've looked a few up, such as www.k12.com, but I can't find any stuff there for people in RI.

Any online schooling for 5 grade in RI?

You can use the k12 curriculum in RI, but you have to purchase individually, which would be fairly expensive.  You might check out www.time4learning.com as a less expensive option.  I am homeschooling a 4th grader right now, and I think not having to stick to the school district schedule, and hassle with homework, fund raisers, teacher conferences, etc. makes my life less stressful and gives us more time for family fun stuff - not to mention the great learning we get to do as well.  

Whether or not you get to homeschool, I suggest you get involved with some activities outside of school that you enjoy. It could be a sport, dance, music, writing, scouting, community service, etc.  and it can allow you to meet friends of all ages.  Having those social connections outside of school will help you whether you are homeschooled or endure the rest of 5th grade at your school.

Good luck and hang in there!  You are in a tough stage of growing up, it gradually gets better. You are obviously very bright and I guarantee high school gets better and college is great fun.  I know it is small comfort when you are so miserable now, but there is a future happy you that is just waiting to arrive.  Whatever your parents decide, just keep working for that future and enjoy it when it gets here!

Hey there dear, I understand everything you are saying! Trust me, I am being online schooled right now. It's a good idea for some people, but your problems go on in everyday life with people, and its not a good idea to run from your problems. I used to be just like you, and I stood my ground and people saw how strong I was even though there were not people behind me. I would LOVE to be in a regular school, unfortanually I have a bad principal at the school, so for the past 2 years I have done online school. Just give it a chance and if it doesnt work out then have a sit down with your parents and tell them your problems and "YOU" need to do research on the schools there, someone can give you the name of a school, but that doesnt mean its the best one for you!

We have a homeschool online course co-op, but though many have been interested in taking 5th grade level classes (particularly math), no parents have stepped forward to volunteer to teach that level. We have active classes for high school and for 1st grade, most of which will not be useful to you.

However, your writing shows enough maturity to allow you to fit in fine with the composition class. The students in that class range in age from 12 to 16. We are wrapping up the first semester which focused on various forms of narrative writing which would be a bit to far in to the semester to have you join in, but you will be able to start with us in January for the second semester which will focus on essays, standardized testing prep, and giving presentations.

Our online classroom has full dulex audio, a text chat system, a whiteboard, application sharing, webcam, and more. We have kids in the live, online classes from all over the US and from Canada. The classes range in size from 3 to 12 students depending on the subject matter and the comfort level of the volunteer teaching the class. Even though we do not have 5th grade level classes at the moment, perhaps someone will step forward before the second semester begins. It is worth watching to see. If classes do open up, the classes are free because we operate with volunteers and donations, but you may need to get textbooks and a mic/headset for the classes.

If you can make it through this year- You could go to Connection Academy next year.  They don' enroll anytime of the year that's why.It is online and totally free. www.connectionacademy.com

Seriously home-schooling is not the best option. Try and pursued your parents to let you move school - possibly to a private school as home schooling will be just as expensive if done properly. A normal person (i guess like you're mother) may be able to teach you at year 5 level but later...

Lots of people hate school - me included but friends make it bearable. I understand you're situation and hope you find a solution.

Well, you can homeschool through a virtual charter school.  See if your state offers online charter schools.

www.hslda.org  Click on your state and see if there is something there about online charter schools.  If they do offer online charter schools, they will sometimes provide a computer/printer/ink/supplies and even internet services, too.

TRUST ME HOMESCHOOLING IS A BAD IDEA. yOU SHOULD GET FIRST HAND TEACHING FROM YOUR TEACHER. (sorry about the caps lock, I thought it was off hehe)
