Question:

Online autism/Asperger support groups for ADULTS?

There is a wealth of information of parents of autistic kids on the spectrum and kids on the spectrum in terms of support. As an adult on the spectrum I see support greatly lacking or altogether absent. If there is anything I've missed, I'd appreciate the 411. I've never been able to communicate with anyone who shares my disorder-EVER. To do so would ease my frustration and allow me to practice my communication skills. BTW, nothing should be implied here that I hold anything against kids. All I ask for is fair and equal representation and that begins with support. Thank you.

  1. You should try going to http://www.autismspeaks.org/ Your SLP/Psych can recommend support groups.

  2. Try www.wrongplanet.net. It's a great site with forums, chat, etc. for people on the spectrum, especially adults. I have Asperger's and really enjoy this site.

  3. There's a group of Aspies at Yahoo! groups at FAM Secret Society.

An excerpt from the front page reads: "Fellowship of the Aspergian Miracle - Secret Society is a tight knit, supportive community of friends, most with Asperger Syndrome and some without, many of whom come directly from www.aspergia.com after its closure."

Perhaps you will find this group a good fit for your situation.
