What steps to take to open an online store from Texas? I have read about Sales ID number, Tax ID number. Are those different things? What else is needed.

They are the same thing. You can apply online by going to the Texas State Comptroller's website.  Look at "I want to"and click on Apply for a Sales Tax Permit.
