Online friends, views?

Okay, i was just thinking, i've got a few online friends who i talk too who are around my age, i've seen their pics and everything and i just talk to em when im bored and i need a laugh. It's good fun actually. I'm not into anything weird though and never will be and nor are they so it's all good. I think people assume if you have a few online friends that it's really bad of you and dangerous, after what the media portrays. But i think as long as it's nothing more than talking and there are boundries theres no problem with it. I've got loads of close friends in real life and a few friends virtually. Does anyone else have online friends? What are your views? (:

I have a few online friends! Known them for so long and have a few on myspace, I don't talk to most hardly ever now days but i think their fine. Most of them even no where i live (not exactly but general area) and what school i go to. I know this sounds dangerous but i can trust them, ive seen their myspace, webcam (not in a weird way) what other proof can they offer. Its great to talk to people like you in different areas. I'd feel comfortable meeting most of them

I have some friends online who I talk to now and again.

There's people from YA! who I talk to a lot as well. As long as it doesn't go any further than talking I think that's fine.

Yeah i know exactly what you mean,

the media is all

EVERYONE IS AN INTERNET PREDATOR

but reality is, sure there are people like that

but if you have enough common sense you know to stay well away from them

and you can tell if the person is who they are saying they are.

I have a few great online friends

plan to meet one someday too.

we webcam and call each other and text it's great :)

jea, thats how i feel.. if you dont give out information tht could be used against/to harm you, then go for it. i have a few online friends too, so itsall good

AS long as you aren't obsessive, giving up going out with RL fiends to talk to your OL buddies its okay.

Be cautious in general. People can totally lie online.

I and some other people had a really bad experience on LJ with a person who claimed to be a 28 YO widow and turned out to be a 46 YO married woman with kids.

Be suspicious of any one whose life is too wonderful or too tragic. Don't lend them money  or offer to let them visit you.

You don't say how old you are if yo are a minor be aware that your online "friends" could be really creepy adults.
