Is it illegal or not to gamble online with real money in the US? Some sites say it is illegal, and some sites says its not.

It is legal to gamble online if the local laws at the physical location of the casino permit it. It is like gambling in Vegas or on a cruise ship. You are under the juristiction of the local laws. The part that goes into the gray area is the taxes. Internet casinos do not report taxes to the US government. It is the responsibility of the gambler to report winnings.

There is also a law against transfering money via wire for the purpose of gambling, but this is aimed at the banks not the gamblers.  That is why you can't use certain credit cards or the charges show up on your card from some place you have never heard of.  The laws only effect the bank making the wire transfer, not the player requesting the transfer.

Sorry to burst your bubble but online gambling is technically illegal in the US. it's banned with the exception of fantasy sports, online lotteries and horse racing.

Although the only way the US enforce this is through the payment providers. In line with your comments the law is evidently proving unenforceable and there is an ongoing debate and mounting pressure on the US government to legalize online gambling.
