Question:

Online hotel reviews?

Hi. I'm researching some hotel resorts for a Christmas holiday I plan to take. I've been reading the tripadvisor and it has lots of information. The problem is the reviews are mostly a little bit too perfect and I feel like they've been generated from admin staff at the respective hotel chains. That is, are they an honest reflection of the properties in your opinion. Anywhere else I might look? Thanks!

  1. Take a few time to check the information on http://www.bali-travelnet.com if you wish to planing for a holiday in Bali.

  2. Well, I would have recommended TripAdvisor.com if you hadn't mentioned it already. The people who write reviews on TripAdvisor are usually pretty honest and are well-rounded travelers, not hotel staff.

One really great place to look is Expedia.com. That website has lots and lots of reviews, so you can get the perspective of many different travelers and not just the happy ones. Just type in the city you are traveling to and you will get a list of available hotels for those dates. You'll also find hotel photos, video tours, reviews and ratings, and even attraction maps.

    Good luck!

P.S. If a hotel has a lot of great reviews, you should really consider it. Travelers who had really good experiences will tend to write a review about it right away.

  3. I would have recommended tripadvisor too, I didn't realise there was some bias on there.  Other sites might include

http://www.epinions.com/Hotels who have probably more honest reviews of nearly 50,800 hotels.

Alternatively you could try http://www.realholidayreports.com or there's a site that does video reviews of hotels at http://www.tvtrip.com/

  4. Any of the online travel booking sites (Orbitz, Expedia, Hotels.com, etc.)  should have reviews of hotels.
