  1. The only way you could even remotely get away with this is if you were already at the black belt level.  That means you know the basics ALREADY, there is no one else around to teach you, and you can figure out the nuances and little things that will go by 99% of the people watching the online thing.  That means you have already been hit, hit people, felt pain, learned control and all of the other stuff.

I'm actually learning a few TKD things online because I'm playing Judo right now and need time for that with real, breathing people who fight back.  The air is not a very challenging opponent.  Besides, if the air is choking me I have bigger things to worry about than martial arts.

Try going to a community center and seeing if they offer TKD at low rates.  I bet they do.  TKD is very common.

If you are really stuck with an online situation, I suggest going to YouTube and searching for videos.  Go to TKD sites to find out the proper sequence for learning patterns.  Between that and YouTube examples, you could do something.  But, your angles are likely to be off and you are very likely to injure yourself because you do not have a person there to correct and guide you.

Please tell your mum that you can only self-study when you are at the point of learning where you SHOULD be teaching yourself.  That's usually at the black belt level----the black belt that was awarded to you by a human.

  2. i happen to train  in tae-kwan-do  and the only  thing i can say

get it from the source  not the internet!!  i have been training

for nearly 2years  and in going for my red tag.  training is not that

expensave  one you have a licence and your do-bok (uniform)

it  no that bad i only  pay  ÃƒÂ‚£3.50p   per session . its well worth it. the internet  is not  going to teach you properly!  to defend yourself  you need practical  training!!

  3. online lessons for martial arts or anything is like virtual s*x,

sure you might think you are getting something out of it, but when you wake up all you find is a big mess all over yourself.

seriously, you can't learn unless the teacher is there to correct you.  sure you can mimick whats going on, but without correction and actually bieng taught the mechanics, you are wasting your time.

the real part of learning is in bieng corrected and adjusted by a teacher.

  4. you must have a instructor to tell you what your doing wrong, with out that you will be learning the wrong technique, martial arts has alot to do with technique, stance, and movement, you cant judge your self because you dont know what's right and wrong, you must learn the basic's before you can perform them, and no site will teach you

  5. I'm sure that your mom means well, but you can't learn anything useful for real self-defense from a book, video, or on-line. It requires an experienced instructor to correct you and partners to practice with to perfect your technique, timing, balance, distance,...etc.   Best to wait until you can afford the proper training.   For what it is worth, I wanted to start training when I was very young. My parents would not allow it. When I turned 13 I began to mow lawns for money and began my training.   My training began in 1967 and has never stopped. Hang in there. If you are still interested in training when the money becomes available, you will most likely make an even better student.

    Best of Luck!

  6. Learning any MA online will get the same results as if you were training as a gymnast the same way... You'll only end up hurting yourself.

I had the same issue. You must Develop a circle of friends that share your desire to learn [TKD], and learn from them. Read BOOKS. Share them with those you know that train [TKD] UNDER A MASTER.

None of these compare to learning from a master, but they will help prepare you for the time that you find one. Understand that if you do take this path, you may be forced in the future to UNLEARN some habits you have Developed in your training, as EYE did- and it may not be as easy as it was for me, to do so.

Just remember to keep your questions flowing, and your mind open.

  7. It is REALLY better to get lessons from an instructor, if you look in community centres, leisure centres, YMCA's etc you might find cheaper lessons there.

However, I do know of one link that you can try for the time being:

  8. it will not work.  You will perform incorrect moves and with no instructor to correct you, you will only perfect the incorrect moves.

Go to a dojang and strike a deal with the owner or head instructor.  Maybe you can offer your time for lessons. I did this a few times when I was young. You keep the place nice and tidy and you get to train.

It will be hard work but you may even get some one on one time after hours.

  9. it dont work
