im going in to freshman now and want to join the volleyball team.

i loved playing volleyball ever since i was young, but never was on a team or anything except in the beginning of my 8th grade year. i joined a recreation team and played for about 3 months. then i didnt play at all afterwards. im pretty good at receiving and such, but i am terrible at overhand serving, and im positive we need to have the serving all set if i want to join the team.

please help, will i be able to make the team?

how can i practice overhand serving??

anything else i should practice just in case??

please and thank you!

  1. Practice your serve......... like alot!

    its a biggie!

Have someone throw you a really hard pall and pass it back, *low at all times!*

Call the ball every single time, beyond important!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are a bad server, maybe you can play libero, but after you make the team first, make sure you get that over hand down.

    Runnnnnnn!

    Jump rope!

    wall Jumps

touch the floor jump as high as you can go, squat down, wouch floor and jump again, like 4 sets of 8

    Luck :)

  2. im starting 8th grade and ive been playing since april. you should practice whenever you have time on your hands. i know varsity players who practice even though they're awesome players. we cant really tell if you can make the team since we havent seen you play. but you would make a good libero; they usually dont serve. they must be good serve receivers and good passers. but you should practice all the skills; setting, bumping, hitting, blocking, digging, serving. i can overhand serve because i practiced everyday for 4 months. just practice all your skills.

the most important thing in serving is consistency. but if you practice everyday outside and work out, you'll get it. If you're not sure how to overhand serve, go on the internet and look. Or find hand positions that are right for you and that help you make the ball go far and hard. Hit it with your palm; you should not even hear a smack, just a PLUMP. And when you're about to hit, face your palm in an upward position, but at an angle. Not too upward. And swing fast! First start at the 10 ft line then take 2 steps back when you've hit it over the net 10 times (in a row).  But like I said, consistency is the key. Don't stress yourself, but have faith because you will get it. And PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE! Good luck!

  3. im going to be a freshman too! and the only time i played volleyball was in 8th grade too! yes you probably will make the team.  By a volleyball and a volleyball net (you dont have too but it will elp you practice).  do some conditioning for 30 minutes everyday like runnind down the street and back then stretch than do lots of leg work like shuffles and lunges.  then do volleyball everyday.  yes you will mke the team. to practice over hand you would have to put up a volleyball net and practice and to make the team usually all coaches r looking for is if you know how to pass the ball. practice passing spiking and serving.

  4. I am a libero (a.k.a. defensive specialist.)  The first time i tried out for a club volleyball team i never served an overhand serve in my entire life! They still took me because of my defensive skills.  I started playing volleyball when i was in 3rd grade and now I am going into 8th plus two seasons of club volleyball.  You might be able to make the team, you might not . It all depends on what the team is looking for. I started learning overhand serving in my first season of select. The coaches advice was to practice your toss in your bedroom or somewhere in your home or outside.  The toss is the basic part of the serve. I think you should also practice setting and spiking the ball somewhere if you can. But that also depends on which position you want to play, too. I'm not sure if this has helped you at all :)

    Good Luck :)

  5. IT ALL DEPENDS IF UR GOOD AT IT

  6. well you might be able to make it as a defensive specialist who only plays the back row and maybe go in for somebody who serves really well but can return the serves good luck and for overhand serving just keep practicing thats all that is about good luck
