  1. I'd say as a guess LAPD or LA County Sheriff. They put that many in a year although this seems really high. Maybe 500 Apply and 38 make it. That seems more realistic than what you heard.

  2. When I applied only a dozen out of the 300 that applied made it through all the tests and the psych test which is like 4 hours long.  I passed everything but I was hired for another job.  Soon I will be required to take the same training in their academy which I'm sure I will pass.  A lot of people don't even make to the tests because they don't pass the background check.  If you have a lot of debt or poor credit they won't take you.

  3. Typically a department will take applications from over 1200 applicants in order to fill an academy with approx. 35-45 cadets. We have recently taken in over 2100 applications in order to fill our next academy with 35-45 cadets. The hiring process is very competitive.

  4. And you thought the only thing cops have to do is eat donuts and drink coffee?  It's a hard job to qualify for, and only the very best get accpted into the academy, and many of those don't make it.  The word "elite" doesn't even begin to describe what it takes to be a cop.

  5. A lot of those people never even made it past the background checks, the written exam, oral board, physical agility test..........A few more I'm sure did not have what it took to complete the academy, failing grades, inability to use common sense (you'd be surprised at how much that happens) and make good judgments.  A number THAT high would indicate that is how many people applied for the position to start and through a process of elimination 38 graduate.
