The Italian goal-keeper considers his team second only to the La Liga giants; the shot-stopper all praise for Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani.
Napoli goalkeeper, Morgan De Sanctis, believes that his team is at par with any other side in the UEFA Champions League except the Spanish duo.
The statement was made by the confident Napoli custodian after his team beat Chelsea 3-1 in the first-leg of the last 16 round of the Champions League.
While talking to the reporters, De Sanctis said:
“We believe that only Barcelona and Real Madrid are superior to us in the competition. We are aware that we are on a par with everyone else.”
The former Sevilla shot-stopper believes that the night was magical for the Stadio San Paolo outfit, as they came from behind to take a two-goal lead that could very well prove to be the difference in the outcome of the contest.
However, he is still depressed to have conceded an important away goal to Chelsea through a comical error.
“We’re happy with the display, but not too happy as we could have ended the tie there and then. Now we have to go to London.”
The 34-year-old is complacent in measuring his team’s odds for putting an end to Chelsea’s campaign, and insists that the Blues have the experience to bounce back from these situations.
“Let us say that we have a 51 per cent chance of getting through because we know the strength of Chelsea and their champions.”
De Sanctis also took time to praise the decisive performances of Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani, who were the main heroes in Napoli’s triumph.
“They are players who make our fortune. Yet they are supported by a team who put them in the best position to show their quality. They are the players, along with Marek Hamsik and Goran Pandev, who allow us to take a step up to
the next level.”Added the Italian international
Napoli will travel to London for the second-leg against of the tie at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, March 14.
