“Only Johan Santana will decide when he's ready” says New York Mets GM – MLB News
The New York Mets’ general manager Sandy Alderson has currently spoken to some in the media that asked several questions from him about starter Johan Santana and his potential comeback.
“Whatever the schedule is, Johan is ultimately the final arbiter, whether that’s articulated or not, because he’s the only one who can judge how he really feels,” New York Mets’ general manager Sandy Alderson answered in detail.
He added, “We need to get him ready, His condition will dictate his schedule at this point. I don’t concern myself with any sort of emotional response, It’s all about, ‘Let’s get him ready on the appropriate schedule.”
He further said, “Periodic judgments rather than daily judgments, I think, are more valid and allow us to focus on more details.”
Santana is one of the star Mets players and possesses large Major League experience. He was slightly injured in the offseason, but his doctors are now saying that he will be quite healthy enough to pitch again in the Majors.
Last season, Santana did a good job by throwing consistently on the mound and achieved 4.85 ERA along with 6-9 win-loss, 111 strike-outs and 1.33 WHIP. Overall Santana has also a good career ERA of 3.20 along with 139-78 win-loss, 1988 strike-outs and 1.13
WHIP.
Experts believe that if Santana does play in the next Majors, the Mets’ overall results will be impressive. Along with Santana, the New York Mets have a strong starting line-up.
Currently the Mets have Dillon Gee, Shaun Marcum and Jonathon Niese who will give a tough time to all of their opponents.
These three also possess a great record on the mound and now once again are hoping for a good season. Gee did well in the last outing and achieved 4.10 ERA along with 6-7 win-loss, 97 strike-outs and 1.25 WHIP. Overall he has also 4.06 ERA along with 21-15,
228 strike-outs and 1.31 WHIP.
Marcum also achieved good numbers in 2012 and impressed many. He was consistent on the mound achieving 3.70 ERA along with 7-4 win-loss, 109 strike-outs and 1.27 WHIP. The Mets will definitely be looking forward for the return of Santana soon.
