A person can't help having favorites and liking somebody more than others (not a crush)...

I've never had a crush on a student and I would like to think I work hard to make all feel the same.

When I first starting teaching, I was 25 and had college students who were only a couple of years younger than I was (and a few who were older, but I wasn't interested in those).  I remember having a huge crush on one guy - he was 23, and in the fifth year of a five-year program, and he was in my 8 a.m. class.  The school actually had students register by GPA, so most of the students in the unpopular class times were not the brightest, but there were a few, like him, who were taking a particularly heavy schedule and they had to fit the class in somewhere.  

Anyway, I don't know if he could tell that I was attracted to him and used that to his advantage, or if he liked me too, but he used to drop by my office several times a day and hang out there for hours.  It drove me crazy.  He was the best student in class by several miles anyway, so he certainly didn't need to flirt his way to an A, so in hindsight he must have been somewhat interested.  Neither of us, however, ever said or did anything inappropriate (unless you count hanging out in the professor's office for hours every day as inappropriate) In the end, I left that school at the end of the year and he graduated, and I never saw or heard from him again.  I've often wondered what happened to him.  He is probably married with grown kids by now, and well into his 50s!

I had a co-teacher before who married her student. their marriage didn't last long maybe because of the age gap. It's okay to have a crush on your student. But that should end there.
