Question:

Only child vs. Brothers/Sisters?

I'm 19 years old, and an only child. It's never really bothered me before becasue I always thought maybe my mum will get pregnant and I'll have a little brother or sister, but shes 50 now and its prety obvious thats not gonna happen. It's kind of upsetting. I feel like I've missed out on something. And I get really annoyed when people saym "I hate my brother/sister," because I'd rather have a horrible brother than no one.

Does anyone else feel like this?

Do you feel like you'd be a different person if you were an only chil/ not an only child?

  1. Everyone has a different opinion about whether being an only child is better than having siblings or not. The best thing to do is to accept the fact that you will probably remain an only child and learn to enjoy the good things about it (you don't have to share your room, you don't have an annoying younger sibling to steal your belongings, etc.). If you still feel like there's a void where a younger sibling should be, you can always volunteer as a Big Brother/Sister or as a mentor where you get paired up with a younger child who needs a positive role model in their life. It can be very beneficial for both you and the child.

  2. I have a older brother and a younger sister so i'm the middle child. they make me krazy! everything is always about them and their problems. it's like i dont even exist. it stinks that i'm only 12 (13 in 2 days!!!) so i can't even get out of my dumb house yet. people always say you'll have them forever and stuff. but that's later. and i will need to remember my child years being miserable and alone all the time. as an only child the focus is on you all the time since there' nobody else. it's def. easier i woud say.
