  1. This is so tired...

I am half and half (mum English, dad Scottish) and I am proud of both halves

I support all the home nations but I accept that Wales, Scotland and N. Ireland do NOT support England. I think it's petty, an excuse to dredge up history and it's divisory and unhelpful, but there you go, that's the way it is and clearly the fact we are in the 21st century with all home nations thriving, proud and economically strong has passed some people by...

We have so few sporting successes that I would have thought people would just be pleased to have a BRITISH sports star and actually despite some naive comments from Andy Murray in the past, I think he would be delighted that so many people are behind him regarldess of where they call home.

    So really, get over it...

  2. What is it he actually said the other year? The press always exaggerate, so we should let it go (I'm English btw)

  3. Does that apply to all Scottish sportsmen/women competing on behalf of Great Britain too?  For example in the olympics? Or the British Lions...

If he loses then so be it, he has played well and will always get my support, if he wins then it's a victory for him as an individual, not for Scotland, not for Britain, for him.

If you want to support a nation then watch the Davis cup...

...If he gets into the squad then he'll be representing GREAT BRITAIN by the way.

  4. I agree, but don't rule him out yet, he has "Guts"!!!

  5. I dont agree but, either way I dont think anyone really expects Murray to win, I know I dont.

  6. This question is way too trollish...

  7. Oh, for f**** sake.   When are we all going to learn to get on with each other - or just call it a day and break up the union for good.

I'm British (first and foremost), then I'm Geordie, then I'm English.  I support all of the 'home nations' when we are international competition and I don't give a flying fig which of the home nations our (very rare) tennis successes come from.

Why is it that a great number of Scots are happy to see a British player do well when he's English, but as soon as that British player is from North of the border, he becomes purely Scottish and the English aren't allowed to support him....

  8. Agreed

  9. I personally feel this question raises the matter of Britishness, moreover national identity. Naturally enough Murry does not support or want to be associated with england the same as most scottish people, there's nothing new there. However, I think times are now changing. The news papers here in England are paving the way for the break-up of the UK, and many finacial pundits say that once the oil in the north runs dry, there will be major changes in the way england looks at its relationship with scotland.  In answer to your question maybe in a couple of years time it wont be a problem anymore lol, a shame as i really like the idea of the UK.

  10. Why are you and others like you so racist against the English. No English person that I know ever takes credit for a Scottish win but as Murray and others like him are representing Great Britain, not only in this tournament but also the Davis Cup, the whole of Britain is behind him. I am English and I wish him well for Britain and his own self. If there was an Englishman against him as a Scotsman, representing their countries then I would route for the Scotsman.
