Question:

Only for those who have Vista, others won’t understand?

When I share a folder on the desktop (we will call it folder A) and try to access it from another computer, it makes me drill down through several subfolders to get to it. How can I share a folder on Vista and not have to go through several other folders (users, “computer name”, Desktop, Folder A) just to get to the files in folder A? I am not going to move Folder A anywhere other than where it’s at right now and I am NOT going to duplicate the data anyplace else…so any ideas aside from installing XP?

  1. Sharing folders from the desktop is never a good idea. too prone to accidental changes on the local machine. If you feel you have to do this, Right click and met it shared, then set it available for full control by everyone. Do NOT add it to your shared folders as Vista wants. Give it a simple one-word name. Once any folder is shared with a simple name it is visible in network places on the computer it belongs to as a top level folder. If it is not a top level folder, you have NOT shared it as a folder in its' own right.

  2. If you share it you should be able to go to the network folder on another computer then double click the computer folder a is on and then open it. You have probably shared your users folder or are not accessing it directly.
