Only mature batsmen should be selected for the national team, says Asim Kamal – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Asim-Kamal-c76771, the discarded Pakistan middle-order batsman, believes that a player should be selected in the national team only when he has done well at the domestic level.
Pakistan is a country which is extremely fertile when it comes to producing cricketers of the highest ability. This is primarily the reason why the Green Shirts have always been a force to reckon with in international sport, despite not having a proper structure
of domestic cricket in the country.
In past, a number of young cricketers have been given Test caps in their teenage, which resulted in their downfall, as they failed to absorb the pressure involved at the game’s ultimate stage. The likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-Nazir-c64248
are among those players who got a place in the national team after performing well in either junior cricket or in just one first-class season.
Kamal, while talking to Pakpassion, expressed that a batsman must be allowed to play first-class cricket before getting considered for international cricket. With all the money and media coverage involved, the left-handed batsman thinks that only
a sensible head can succeed at the global level.
"In my opinion, batsmen should be picked for the national team only after they have played and done well consistently for four or five seasons in domestic cricket. In this way, the player will have matured by the time he gets a chance to play international
cricket," he said.
A young batsman from Lahore, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 last year, after doing well in just one season of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. Having played just two games, the right-handed batsman was dropped from
the national side and is still waiting for another opportunity.
Usman’s selection, in Kamal’s opinion, was a prime example of poor planning by the selectors.
"At present, what happens is that a batsman does well in one season, gets selected for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kamal-c70069 added. "Usman Salahuddin is an example. Because these players haven’t really played competitive cricket,
they’re usually unable to survive at the highest level."
