Focus should be on generating power / energy from non-conventional sources.

Well, lets just go back in time to the18th century and live in peace and harmony with mother Earth...When we want to travel we can just take a nice long sailing trip on the U.S.S. Naive, filling the hours with group sing-alongs of "Kumbaya".

as long as people are greedy, there is noway someone will come to a conclusion as you proposed. those who are enjoying superior or above average life style in current format of life will definitely oppose this proposal. but people are greedy, and will remains the same.

yeah! your right I really agree... when our earth dies we die too! we are just killing ourselves! oh man...  well yeah they do sit together and "discuss" about it, yeah you know the stuff they do, they say they agree and promise that they will make laws, products which will lessen pollution and etc. but the problem is they don't really make the laws, or sometimes when the law is done, it is not implemented properly, there is too much corruption... then the products, yeah they make those products and sell them, well some are effective and that's good, but not all those businessmen and politicians really keeps their promise and the businessmen are always just after the money, just look when you try to replace those petrol engines with, for example the Hydrogen power cell, that would be expensive but with the help of all, they can regain the lost funds... and another thing is, when most of us have that kind of car, of course gas and other petrol products will not be sold, they have to convert it into fuel cell sations( another expensive thing) they are afraid to lose money, because many are depending and gets income from those petrol products, like the government, and again they are afraid to lose those money... the problem is too many people prioritize their money before the good of all, people are just so greedy... what we need is cooperation and stop greediness starting with ourselves... even we are not rich and powerful we can still help save the earth, and those rich people there, use yor wealth and power to save us all and yourselves... with us ALL cooperating with each other with love... we can still save the earth!

there is always room for change... we can still do it! I hope that day comes...

I agree that they should, and in fact they have sat down together and they do sit together, and trust me, this has probably been the most discussed mechanical engineering/commercial/political subject for the past 100 years.

Heat engines (Petrol, Diesel, Gas, and Steam Engines) power the worlds transport systems (planes, cars, trucks and trains), keep the wheels of industry turning, and supply the electricity to our businesses, shops and houses. The developed world is totally reliant on the Heat Engine. If governments were to restrict one type of engine, such as the petrol engine, it would simply need to be replaced by something equally damaging.

All governments are aware of the damage heat engines do, and they would eagerly replace them if engineers could come up with a viable solution.

But what are their options?

Hydro-electric power is already exploited to the fullest.

Nuclear power could provide sufficient electricity for all our power needs, with plenty left over for electric cars and trains, but at even greater risk than petrol engines.

Wind and wave power is only able to provide a small fraction of our power needs unless we accept the massive environmental impact on our coast lines and landscapes.

Solar power is still awaiting the technology to make it efficient.

Clean heat engines? There's no such thing.
