Only one who doesn't like to drink?

My parents are both alcoholics and i've seen when drinking can do to a family. This has caused me to not like to drink. I've obviously drank before but it's like when I do it, I feel like an idiot and I look at everyone else and think about how stupid they're acting. It's like I will drink to have fun but then once I'm buzzed I wish I didn't because it feel stupid and just want to go back to my normal, smart self. Basically you drink to be a dumb *** with other dumb ***'s.

Does anyone else have any other similar feelings? I feel so weird saying this because basically everyone drinks these days and you hardly come across someone who doesn't enjoy it too much.

  1. I'm in my third year of college and still haven't had a drink.  I don't care if others do it, but its not for me.  It's bad for your body and messes with your head, and since I'm majoring in physics and love excersizing it would work for me even if I wanted to drink.

Luckily I have good friends who accept my not drinking.

Don't be pressured, not everyone drinks, and real friends wont think anything of you saying no.

  2. I'm in college and even I don't drink. I mean You think typical college student at a major party school must get drunk every weekend but I don't. I agree with you. I decided that I would only drink if something tasted good. Not just to get drunk or because everyone else was drinking. More power to you for sobriety.

  3. i dont drink.. because i think it's stupid and pointless..i'd rahter drink lemonade then beer and other c**p out there...cuz beer suckss

  4. good i thought i was the only nerd at the party sober. my husband is an alcoholic and has been through our 17 yr marriage .i am 33 yrs old and had the same oppurtunity to drink along side him and believe me i tried, but i just cant get to that place . its really not that great being drunk or spending time and money trying to get there , if i ever reach that point usually i just give up on my 4th or 5th  drink and sit back and wish everyone would do the same.

  5. Not everyone enjoys it but you are right most people do.  I can see where you are coming from though I bet I would be totally against it if I grew up in a alcoholic family.

  6. My friends husband has very similar beliefs to yours. He grew up w/ alcoholics and then also a drunk driver killed a friend of his that was 15 years old. (This was 10 years ago, she would have been 25 now) So he doesn't drink at all.

  7. Both my parents are alcoholics too. It's normal to feel the way you do.....you've seen first hand how it can destroy family, relationships etc. Being from a family of alcoholics, we're more susceptible to becoming one ourselves (so they say), so to actually not want it is a blessing. I agree with everything you say. It's not weird...it's being smart.
