Only the left earphone works on ipod?

Question

I am only able to get sound from my left earphone and I know it's not the earphone because I've tried several pairs and they work with other devices just not my ipod so I'm pretty sure it's the earphone jack so is there anything I can do to get it fixed hopefully without having to pay the $130 to send it in to apple?

one of my friends has the same problem....it is the earphone, not the jack....he got new earphones...
