It just means to push yourself.  =)

It's a good quote.

My personal favorite whimsical quote is from The Phantom Tollbooth:

"Anything is possible as long as you do not know that it is impossible."

It's basically the same thing as saying "only those who try will ever succeed".  In latence terms, it means that the only people who will ever discover their true potential are the ones who try to reach it, be it h**l or high waters... or so I think the saying goes.
