My son has asphergers and various degrees of higher autistic traits, I worry if he gets stopped by a police officer or other authority that he may seem like he is on drugs or just not being agreeable with the officer, when in fact his judgment of situations or events are different than a non autistic person and he may answer to the best of his ability or just freeze(as he often does when in a strange situation). Is there a endorcement or code that can be placed on his id to inform of his disalility.?Should he have an id medical bracelet? He has a drivers permit and it is evident that his skills and judgements are too poor to get a license. Does anyone know what I should do ? I try to let him experience things and go places with school and church, but I am scared for him.Thankyou for any help you can give.

  1. I have spoken to many people about this myself for my sons.  It was recommended to me to have business cards explaining what this is.  If your son has enough awareness to pull it out when he has trouble, it could help de-escalate a potentially frightening situation.  I believe that the business card was also recommended by Liane Holliday Willey who in addition to being on the spectrum, has a child on the spectrum.  She does have a website, and I don't know if its on there.  I know that in the UK you can get an autism packet that has the id card for him.  I am not aware that the US has one.

Here are some sights that carry autism cards
