Ons Jabeur stuns Aleksandra Krunic to reach the second qualifier – Roland Garros French Open 2012
Tunisian teenager, Ons Jabeur, stunned the 249th ranked Serb, Aleksandra Krunic, in the first qualifier of the French Open on Wednesday. She bounced back a set down to oust the superior ranked Serb in an epic three-setter;
registering final scores of 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Jabeur is in emphatic run of form reaching the semi-final of the Casablanca challenger earlier this week before knocking out the 19-year-old Serb. She is just 17-year-old and has a lot of time in her career to speed her way up
to the top ranks in the world. It will be interesting to see if she can continue her terrific run of form against the British booming starlet, the 20-year-old Heather Watson, in the next round.
The opening set was totally dominated by the Serb who broke serve in the second game to take an early lead of 3-0. However, the Tunisian teen fought back to win the break back and tied the scores at 3-3 but she couldn’t fight back
again from the break back and lost the opening set in quick succession.
However, the Tunisian starlet stayed focused and cut her opponent into half with her mind blowing winners down the line. She slaughtered the 249th ranked Serb with three back-to-back cross winners and took a resounding
lead of 4-0 at the start of the second set.
There was no coming back from that stage but the Serb proved everyone wrong and jumped back into the match by winning the following four games; breaking twice on the trot and suddenly the lead of the Tunisian was dismissed to nothing.
However, the 482nd ranked Tunisian sneaked another breakthrough in the 10th game of the second set and enforced the final battle into play.
The start to the final set was exactly the same to the second one. The 17-year-old Tunisian bagged the first five games of the set and registered a resounding lead. Krunic tried to get back into the match but the lead was a bit
too much for her level. She could only win one break back and lost the final breakpoints in the eighth game that ended her dreams of making it through to the main round of the Grand Slam tournament.
