Ontario G1 Exit (to get your G2) Test Questions?

1. What EXACTLY is on the test? Please give me a step by step run down of the entire G1 exit test.

2. When downshifting to a stop, do you shift down into first and then back to neutral when stopped? Or is it ok to downshift to second, then neutral, then stop (not going down to first)?

3. When backing up, are you required to place one hand behind the passenger side headrest?

4. When doing hand-over-hand steering, after completing the turn is it ok to let the wheel slide through your hand back into place or do you have to completely hold onto the steering wheel? (my car has power steering, so it wants to go back into place after finishing the turn).

5. Are you required to park on a hill?

  1. 1. First of all you will be directed out of the Ministry of Transportation. It is important to move your head around at this point for other vehicles and pedestrians. Also drive very slowly, no more than 20-30 kph. After that, you will be asked to perform the usual drills such as parallel parking, uphill/downhill parking, left and right turns, stopping at stop signs, reverse parking etc. Also remember that the examiner won't spoon feed you, so you should know when to change lanes or what the speed limit is. You may not do all the drills, but its best to practice them all.

    2. (I've only driven on automatic transmission)

    3. No, keep both hands on the wheel and check the side mirrors as well from time to time. Don't depend on just looking back or just the mirrors. Do both.

    4. Yes. As long as you have control of the wheel, you can release it and let it back to it's normal position.

    5. Usually you will have to do either an uphill park or a downhill park if not both - just remember downhill = turn wheel fully to the right, uphill = fully to the left.
