Ontario Hockey League’s Erie Otters sign Columbus Blue Jackets’ second round pick Oscar Dansk
Sweden’s professional goaltender, Oscar Dansk has been signed by Erie Otters in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). The contract is not finalized right now, but the announcement of the final deal is expected to come in few more days.
The announcement was made by managing partner and general manager of the Erie Otters, Sherry Bassin on Monday.
Oscar Dansk was selected in the 2012 NHL draft by Columbus Blue Jackets, who play in the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL), as the first pick of the second round at the Consol Energy Center, Pittsburgh. He was also ranked at number two
in the NHL central scouting.
When he was drafted, the 18-year-old had a very good feeling on being associated with Blue Jackets and was very optimistic that he will go through the process and will have his dream come true of playing in the NHL. The goalie had said,
"My dream will be to come to camp and try my best, but I know it's a process and however long the process going to take, we'll see.  I feel like I had good conversations with the Blue Jackets, but you never know what will happen."
There were two other goalies selected before him in the 2012 NHL draft, one being Andrei Vasilevski, who was selected 19th by Tampa Bay Lightning and other being Malcolm Subban, selected 24th by the Boston Bruins.
The Stockholm, Sweden native feels better in America because of the less length of the pitch as he thinks it suits his style of the play. He added,
"I like the smaller ice surface in North America. It kind of fits my game a little better. I played three years at Shattuck and that worked out great."
He also feels that he should work more on getting some strength and getting faster to compete with the players on the next level.
"I feel like I have to focus on getting stronger and quicker and stronger legs in order to get to the next level,” he said.
The 6-foot-2, 187 pounder played three years for the Shattuck team, in the Sweden and also represented Sweden’s under-18 and under-20 team at the international level.
