we would like to get an idea about Ontario and Nova Scotia in terms of Health Care System , weather condition , living standard and job opportunity in these places. My wife is a Nail Technician and I am a Computer Operator and we've 2 sons 9 and 11 years old. Our 9 years old son is AUTISTIC. Which province do you think is better for us to move to based on standard of living, weather condition and Health care system? Thanks so much for your opinions.

  1. The place for you is Halifax, Nova Scotia.  You will both find work there and the Medical Services are great.  The climate is Mild and you are by a wonderful Ocean.

    Avoid Ontario at all costs.

  2. I live in Ontario but if I were moving to Canada again I'd look at Halifax NS as a place to live.  Business has taken me there many times and I liked the place.

I can not address any medical concerns except to say a colleague of mine who moved to Ottawa Ontario was quite pleasantly surprised by the level of help he got for his Autistic son.  He had heard many horror stories and was very worried when he accepted a transfer to Ottawa from Winnipeg.

  3. Health care, is probably quite similar, Ontario I've heard has a lot of support for families with autism.

I know Nova Scotia has the IWK children's hospital in Halifax which is a great hospital.

Cost of living is higher in Ontario, rent, food etc. (depending on where you live, Toronto++).

People in NS are really nice and more "down-home" generally.

Job opportunities might be better in Ontario, but the east coast also has many call centers, and some of them are even in smaller towns, there are a lot of other tech jobs as well.

Weather is sometimes harsh in NS (cold winters like most of Canada), but you never can tell year to year, the odd hurricane causes some damage mainly on the shore areas nothing serious, ice storms sometimes, nothing to worry about.  While (southern) Ontario gets slightly warmer weather and milder winters, it also gets small tornadoes, and in some places smog...

It's a toss-up.  Do you like the East Coast personality or a faster paced Ontario?  I would probably prefer... New Brunswick ;)  but Nova Scotia is close enough.
