Mother was born in canada, grew up here.

She has been in the states for 20 years, I have not seen her in 7 of them.

She has gone through a divorce, and many other things and has no means to support herself anymore as she lost everything so my sister and I brought her back to Canada thsi weekend.

She is staying with me until I can find her a job or other.

However, with her age and inability to look after herself... im not sure this would pan out in the near future. What options to I have to find her housing and necessity income sooner than later?

  1. Doesn't she work in Canada for at least there years? Did she ever filled tax to CRA during her years in US? If she visited Canada at least every three year or so, she can enrol in senior programs right away. If she has work in Canada at least sometime (I don't know how long), she is even eligible for CPP. One of my friends' grandmother who was born in India and received Canadian citizenship because of her son is a Canadian citizen, receive CPP and Old Age Security. She NEVER ever worked in Canada nor filled tax in CRA. But here son did and therefore she is eligible.

If you fill tax and you are the primary caregiver for your mom, she is eligible for everything.  If your mom was born in Canada, I am sure she will receive the same benefit. No question there. You can contact, 1-800-O-Canada or Canada Services Agency for more information.

I just check something with my dad... You and your sister work here in Canada? Then yes, yes, yes and big YES! Your mom is eligible for everything regardless of birth place.
