Onward tickets?

Question

does this apply for all countries in south america? does it apply for venezuela?? do you know bus journeys from country to country take way way way too long and are not fun. so if i want to hop around every country by plane id need 2 tickets every time each time i board a plane??? one way ticket to the next country, and a one way ticket from the airport in the next city back to canada? is that correct? this is such a hassel to get 2 tickets every time i want to fly to the next place. its unbelievable. does the onward ticket always have to be back to canada or can it be any ticket for the nearest country? thanx
