Ooi Long likely to break maiden in Center Handicap (Div II)
Ooi Long is likely to break his maiden in the Pipe Center Handicap (Div II) that will be held at Brighton racecourse today, June 26. The Class 6 contest is scheduled to start at 3:45 (GMT).
On the good to soft track of 5 furlongs and 213 yards, the Mark Rimmer-trained bay gelding will run against 8 competitors for the prize cheque worth £1,617.
Since the beginning of May 2012, the three-year-old young and energetic horse has been performing well on various courses. After finishing 7th against a dozen of rivals on May 10, he moved ahead to gain two consecutive thirds in the subsequent
starts.
The Clive Dennett-owned gelding marvellously earned a runner-up rank in his last start on June 13 while fighting against 14 competitors at Yarmouth.
Thus, the son of Echo Of Light out of Danceatdusk looks to be in the position to accomplish his maiden triumph. Moreover, he is going to run under Toby Atkinson for the very first time. This novelty can prove to be advantageous for him.
However, unfamiliarity with the racing condition can go against him. If he manages to cover this loophole, he will be able to thrive emphatically.
On his way towards the finish line, Ooi Long will have to face some resistance from Whiteoak Lady and Bajan Hero.
Whiteoak Lady has won 4 of her total 23 starts so far. The David Evans-trained experienced mare elegantly finished first in her last outing on June 19, 2012. Earlier, she had been struggling since the dawn of the calendar year.
It is guessed that the daughter of Medecis out of French Toast will give tough time to Ooi Long. The duel between the duo will fill the race with thrill.
On the other hand, Bajan Hero is winless yet despite having run for 11 times so far. Mrs E. Evans’ bay gelding grabbed a runner-up rank in his last outing on June 25, 2012. The horse does not seem to be a strong contender for success, but he has reasonable
chances to get second spot in the race.
Let us enjoy the stirring action at Brighton. Good luck to all the runners.
